I

I’m back on land with no view of the ocean.

The past days were spent enjoying the island life. I loved my time in Hale Manna. The place always feels like home. It was work but more play. I was there to document and celebrate Therese’s 40th birthday.

While clicking away, my thoughts drifted to when I first met Therese back when Facebook was non-existent. I can’t help but feel sad about how social media has made friendships so virtual already. Saying hello and sharing a cup of coffee has been replaced by a poke or thumbs up. I sometime worry that the friendship that I share with a few people will eventually die because it hasn’t been nurtured by face-to-face encounter.

Therese has always been the nurturing kind. We don’t talk or see each other often. But whenever I see her I always get the feeling that I just saw her yesterday. Sometimes I’d send her crazy messages about my crazy ugly thoughts. Out of the blue she’d ask – how are you? And then I’d tell her about my crazy ugly thoughts all over again. I’m just so grateful that after all these years she never grew tired listening to me whine about life and my crazy thoughts.

Happiest birthday again T!
