Not everyone are comfortable being photographed.  Just like Niall (pronounced as Nayl) and Cherry.  Niall wanted it to end before we even started.  This is not something he is used to.  I guess in Ireland, wedding paparazzi’s approach wedding shoots differently. I was told that they don’t do engagement shoots over there.  And weddings there, according to some friends, aren’t as huge as here.  I mean, maybe, they like it intimate and small.  By intimate, I mean less than thirty people.  Our intimate means fifty to sixty guests.  A groom from Germany once told me, we have a different kind of intimate.

Cherry’s best friend, in her speech, said, “When you marry a Filipina, you marry the whole family.”  The WHOLE family of the families of the members of the family. I guess thats the reason why weddings here in the Philippines is a major production.  I don’t mean that in a bad way.  It can be a story we can share with our grandchildren. “I married your grandfather with one hundred fifty guests present.”  It’s fun when you get married in the Philippines.

When we did Niall and Cherry’s engagement photos, Niall was very hesitant.  Cherry coaxed him to act natural.  I, on the other hand, kept telling him, not to mind me.  “I’m not really here.”  I’d gladly wear a cloak that can give me the power to be invisible.

Haven’t you noticed that the first few frames are always the awkward ones?  Towards the end, Niall warmed up.  He joked about how amused he is when cashiers in the malls or fast food stores tells him, “Hello Sir Mam, I received five hundred pesos… “

I asked him if he tried eating Balut, Balut is an Asian delicacy.  According to Wikipedia, Balut is a fertilized duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell.  It is popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein, hearty snack. Street vendors in the region mostly sell Balut. It is commonly sold as street food in the Philippines.  Cherry said he likes to eat San Pedro Lechon manok.

I’m curious about Ireland. I’ve seen photos of lavish countrysides filled with colorful wild flowers.  A friend once told me, that it is a destination that can give me shutter induced happiness.  One thing that totally piqued my interest was their accent.  My God! Did I have a hard time understanding what they were saying?  Their son, Leo (pronounced as Liyow), had to repeat himself several times.  He wanted to borrow my iPhone.  Just one short sentence and I was like, “Uhhhhhh.  What’s that again?” I felt like an old woman with a hearing impairment.

I just want to say I super enjoyed shooting this wedding.  I can describe it as SIMPLE, RELAXED, and FAMILY.  My favorite part was when cherry’s siblings started to sing.  Each of them had this raspy melodious voice.  I thought that was it!  But when Cherry grabbed the microphone and sang for Niall, any groom with a voice like hers could’ve proclaimed to the world, “I’d like to marry you once again!”

To Cherry and Niall, congratulations.  May you fill each other’s hearts with love, contentment, and happiness. Thank you for having us at your wedding.  “Partey.  Parteey!”
