Dan & Astrid's Cebu Wedding

Astrid and I first met at the canteen of Perpetual Succour Hospital. She’s a nurse like myself. The only difference is she practiced her profession while I didn’t.

Sometimes, I couldn’t help but wonder and reflect if nursing is really my calling. Is being a wedding photographer just a temporary route? I love being one, but I love being a nurse too. I just find it ridiculous to surrender so many hours (8-10 in a day) working a nurse in my country and be compensated so low! The Philippines produces the best nurses in the world but to work here cannot bring food to the table. Isn’t that sad?

But…

To gain experience here would be the best way to covet a well paying nursing job in other countries. A month ago I had the chance to do a family session with a nurse who works in one of the best hospitals in the world – John Hopkins Hospital. I raised a question one after another. Like how did you get there? Followed by a quiet question to self — Why was it so easy for nurses to find a job many years ago? Why wasn’t it easy for the many of us???
