Don’t you just love it when your clients are as excited about the shoot as you are, and when they get their hands dirty, too, in all the preparation?
We love this shoot. We prepared for it! Jessa and Vince were very hands on from the conceptualization to the hunting of clothes and materials. The list of materials/props they had to prepare was one page long. Patience and creativity resulted to these photos.
Their theme of choice was not an easy one—in fact, it was really three themes rolled into one. ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s—inspired by biker movies of the ‘70s, aerobics workout videos of the ‘80s and grunge music of the ‘90s, respectively (Vince was fascinated with big bikes, Jessa loved acid colors, and both of them loved rock music). Our stylist worked a full month and a half to put everything together (imagine that!) and he was about to give up, but Vince and Jessa made things easier by being involved in every single step in the preparation. Bravo! Bravo!
I think we had two or three sit-down meetings just to make sure we were not overlooking the smallest detail. Jessa admitted they were the OC kind. OC photographers + stylist + OC clients = Perfect.
We super had fun last Sunday. We prefer to do our shoots on Sundays (one whole day). We also love it when clients give us something we can work on like a movie that moved them or a favorite song or an image they cannot forget.
We consider engagement sessions a crucial aspect before THE big day. It’s bonding time between the photographer and client. Haven’t you noticed that during sessions, the first few frames aren’t always great? I mean when it comes to feeling comfortable and being less self-conscious. There has to be a relationship between the photographer and the subject. Without that bond, the output can’t be that DEEP or moving. This is how we view our work.
