Dumaguete Engagement Session: Johann & Sherlyn
I love Dumaguete! I want to live there.. The place reminds me of Cebu many years ago. I have lived here all my life and I saw how it has progressed to the city it is today. It used to be so quiet. But change is the only constant thing in this world. I have to accept that Cebu is not the sleepy and quiet city that is used to be.
A visit to Dumaguete city for Johann and Dr. Sherlyn’s engagement session was a happy break. I didn’t mind the long drive to Santander (where the port is). It took us about five hours to reach Dumaguete city.
I made a reservation at the little hotel where we usually stay — One Bethany Place. The girl at the front desk asked me to fill up a form. She wondered about the information written in the paper. She asked if I was married and why I wasn’t carrying my married family name. I had to tell her about the right of a woman not to use her husband’s family name. She hesitated and then asked why I wasn’t wearing a ring! She pointed to the sign on the counter — INSTANT SPOUSES NOT ALLOWED! I’ve wondered about it the first time I saw it. It felt like I was placed in a hot seat with mother superior shooting me one question after another.
Big Niño and I showed our identical tattoos. “Isn’t this enough? This is more permanent than a wedding ring. We can’t take it off!” He pointed to small Niño and told her, “Our baby is tired, sleepy, hungry, and grumpy! Can you give us a room please!”
It was a first!
But.
I love Dumaguete still.
