I

2015-08-03_0001

It rained when we were about to start.  We entertained ourselves with stories.  Of course, I had to ask about how John proposed.  He proposed in India, in a light house tower.  She didn’t get to wear a dress because like all the other trips they made together when she would prepare herself for the big question, the one in India was totally unexpected.  She cried buckets, she said.

I asked John about their cultural differences. He’s Irish. She’s Filipina. Did you have a hard time adjusting to one another?  He said, “There is nothing we can’t overcome.”  He calls her munchkin.  She calls her sweety.

I thanked the rain that day.  We had a short shooting time, but still, I was grateful.  It gave me the chance to know them a little bit more.  It is important for me to have that connection.  I can’t shoot with zero emotions.  I have to feel you and know you.  This helps me with how I should capture your true self.  She said they are quite funny in front of the camera.  Awkward!  But awkward is nice because it brings out the candidness and the realness of photos.  It doesn’t have to be perfect all the time.  I also think that as the shoot progresses, the awkwardness will eventually disappear.  You won’t even notice I’m there!

I am heading to Bohol for their wedding this weekend.  Can’t wait to smell the beach!
