When I first started I was very reluctant.  I had a million and one excuses. Super scared.  Full of doubts!  I chicken out every time couples approach me to ask if I do engagements and weddings.  But I really wanted to learn and I really looked for my direction like what area in photography should I pursue.

Slowly, over time, everything unfolded.  They say when you are truly passionate about something; you will never stop aiming at getting better.   I had my sad share of criticisms.  Human as I am, I cried and felt bad.  Then, I realized these people would help me do well.

My first camera was a Canon 450D.  The first lens that I played with was a Canon 50mm 1.8.  I had two because I broke the first one when I tried going around wearing high heels.  I fell on the floor and broke my first love.   That was the only lens I could afford to buy.

I later on learned that photography reflects the heart of a person.  We might be shooting side by side with the same subject, but the photos will always come out different.  I believe that photographs have genes.  It has it’s own DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid).  No matter how you copy someone else’s work, it will come out different.  Thus, I stick to my own style.  It didn’t happen over night.  It just grew.  Evolved.

Life happened and so here I am.  No longer reluctant!

These were the photos I took from my first ever engagement session.  Not as an official photographer yet.  But as a wide-eyed and it-feels-like-I’m-in-heaven photographer.  Mango Red was there.  I love their work to bits.  It’s fun.  It’s quirky.  It’s them.

Recently, I received an email from a young photographer who wanted to apprentice for the summer.  I asked for her portfolio.  It reminded me of how I first started.  Don’t stop believing!

Angel, associate photographer/ mega stylist/ creative director/ writer, takes really good photos.  I bug him every time we shoot to give me his files.  I find it also funny every time he tells me what he needs to review his shots first (delete some) before he gives it to me.  I just have to convince him that he’s father will be proud of him.
